Stuttering Support
I help people who stutter build practical communication strategies, steadier confidence, and more freedom in the speaking situations that actually matter to you — the phone call, the introduction, the meeting, the interview.
I help people communicate with greater confidence — whether you are navigating stuttering, dating, or the everyday moments where being understood matters most.
Private pay · No referral needed · Sessions online or in person
How comfortable you feel speaking shapes your friendships and relationships, your work, your dating life, the rooms you walk into, and the opportunities you decide are worth trying for. When speaking feels difficult, it rarely stays contained to the words.
You do not need to become a different person. My work is helping you communicate more comfortably and more freely — as yourself.
I help people who stutter build practical communication strategies, steadier confidence, and more freedom in the speaking situations that actually matter to you — the phone call, the introduction, the meeting, the interview.
I help you communicate with more confidence while dating — starting conversations, showing genuine interest, asking questions worth answering, listening well, and staying present instead of rehearsing in your head.
I am a licensed speech-language pathologist. For nearly two decades I worked in California public schools alongside families, teachers and psychologists, and in that time I learned something that shaped everything since: communication is not really about speaking correctly. It is about feeling seen, understood, and confident enough to share who you are.
My style is warm and practical. We work on the situations in your real life, at a pace that feels manageable, and I will never ask you to become someone else in order to be easier to listen to.
Everyone communicates differently. What we work on comes from your goals and your experiences, not from a standard programme.
We spend our time on the moments that matter this week — the call you are dreading, the date on Friday, the presentation on Monday.
Nothing you tell me will be met with judgement. You set the pace, and you are allowed to find this hard.
The goal is not a rehearsed personality. It is you, communicating as yourself, with more ease and less effort.
A client quote about speaking up in meetings goes here — two or three sentences, in their own words.
A client quote about feeling more like themselves on a date goes here — focused on how they felt, not on results.
A third quote about taking an opportunity they would once have avoided. No promises of outcomes.
Every experience is individual. Testimonials describe one person's experience and are not a promise of the same outcome.
Yes. Most of my work happens over video, and it works well. In-person sessions are available in the Sacramento area.
No. You can contact me directly and we will talk about whether what you are looking for is something I can help with.
No. You decide what you want to work towards. For many people that is speaking more freely and worrying less — not eliminating stuttering.
Services are private pay. I will talk you through fees in our first conversation so there are no surprises.
Reach out to ask a question, tell me a little about what you are experiencing, or simply find out whether this is a good fit. There is no pressure and no obligation.
Imagine speaking up in a meeting without rehearsing the sentence six times first. Or sitting across from someone new and actually being there for it.
How comfortable you feel speaking shapes your relationships, your confidence, your work, your dating life and the opportunities you decide are worth trying for. You do not need to become a different person — you need communication to stop costing you so much.
I am a licensed speech-language pathologist, and for nearly two decades I worked in California public schools with families, teachers and psychologists. Somewhere in those years the real lesson landed: people do not come to me because they want to speak correctly. They come because they want to be understood.
So that is what we work on. Warmly, practically, and at a pace you set — with none of the pressure to become someone easier to listen to.
We start from your goals and your life, never a standard programme.
Real situations from your week, not exercises that stay in the room.
No judgement, ever. You set the pace and you are allowed to find this hard.
Not a rehearsed personality — you, with more ease and less effort.

I'm Susanne, a speech-language pathologist. I work with adults on stuttering, and on the conversations that come with dating — so that speaking takes less effort and less rehearsal.
I don't work on making you sound like everybody else. I work on making speaking cost you less.
Susanne, M.A., CCC-SLPFor nearly two decades I worked in California public schools alongside families, teachers and psychologists. What I learned there shaped everything since: communication is less about speaking correctly than about feeling understood enough to say the thing.

I'm Susanne. I help adults who stutter — and people who find dating conversations hard — speak with less effort and more of themselves.
We build strategies that hold up in real life, and we practise them where they count — ordering coffee, making the call, saying your own name without bracing for it.
Openers that sound like you, questions worth answering, and the harder skill underneath all of it — listening well enough that the other person feels it.
Nearly two decades of that was inside California public schools, working with families, teachers and psychologists. It taught me that communication is rarely about speaking correctly — it's about feeling understood enough to say the thing at all.
A free call. You tell me what's hard right now; I tell you honestly whether I can help.
Built around your real situations and your pace — not a standard programme.
The work moves out of the session and into the conversations you actually have.

Not simply because we learn new words — but because we learn to express who we are.
At Gather & Grow I help infants, children, teens and adults build communication skills that foster confidence, connection, independence and joy. Whether we're celebrating a toddler's first words, helping a student thrive at school, refining professional communication, or navigating an IEP together, every session begins with the same belief: your voice matters.

Speech, language, literacy, AAC and accent modification.
Social communication, friendships, emotional expression and family coaching.
IEPs, school consultation, educational planning and transition services.
Executive functioning, confidence, movement-based learning and life skills.
It is belonging. It is confidence. It is curiosity. It is advocating for yourself, sharing your ideas, building relationships, discovering who you are.
Therapy here is never about fixing someone. It is about discovering strengths, developing skills, and creating opportunities for every individual to communicate with authenticity and confidence. Learning happens through movement, conversation, creativity, meaningful play and real-life experiences.
Every person deserves to feel heard. Every person deserves to know their voice has value.
Imagine therapy that feels more like exploring than working. One session might happen on the backyard playground. Another around a table building stories together. Another while climbing, making art, reading, solving problems or playing games.
Children learn best when they're engaged.
Adults learn best when therapy feels relevant.
Families learn best when they're part of the process.
I've spent more than twenty years helping people communicate with confidence. My experience spans every stage of development — from infants developing their earliest communication skills to young adults preparing for careers and independent living.
Throughout my career I've worked in public schools, collaborated with multidisciplinary teams, supervised and mentored professionals, partnered with families, and advocated for students through hundreds of IEP meetings.
Before becoming a speech-language pathologist I earned a degree in Economics from Georgetown University, then followed my interest into Communication Sciences and Disorders and a Master's in Speech-Language Pathology from San Diego State University. I'm also a certified yoga teacher, and I believe movement, mindfulness, curiosity and play create powerful openings for learning.
Communication isn't something we practise in therapy. It's something we live every day.
I understand how educational systems work because I've been part of them. If you're preparing for a meeting, trying to make sense of an assessment, or unsure what your child is entitled to, I can sit on your side of the table.
Because learning shouldn't be limited to a desk, sessions can take place wherever they'll work best.
There are many wonderful speech therapists. What makes this practice different is where we start.
Curiosity before challenges. Connection before correction. Confidence before perfection.
Because when people feel safe, understood and capable, communication grows naturally.

Whether you're looking for speech therapy, educational support, communication coaching, or simply wondering where to begin, I'd love to connect.
I offer personalized support to help you communicate with more confidence, more freedom, and more trust in yourself — in the situations you care about.
Whatever you have been managing quietly, you will not have to explain or defend it here.
You choose the priorities. These are the areas people most often bring to me.
Getting clear on your own patterns — what helps, what makes things harder, and what you are already doing well.
Concrete tools you can use in real time, plus ways to steady yourself before a moment you know is coming.
Slowly reclaiming the words, calls and situations you have been steering around, one at a time.
Meetings, phone calls, presentations, interviews, introductions, and asking for what you need.
Group conversation, new people, and dating — including how and whether to talk about stuttering.
Self-advocacy, and easing the anticipation and fatigue that often surround speaking.
There is no script and no cure on offer. There is a steady, collaborative process that adjusts to you.
These are possible goals, not promises. Progress looks different for everyone, and you define what counts.

Yes, and it works well. Video also makes it easy to practise the exact thing many people find hardest: talking on a screen.
No. You do not need paperwork to start a conversation with me.
No, and I will not promise fluency. Many people want to speak more freely and let stuttering matter less — that is a goal I can support.
We talk. You say as much or as little as you like, I ask what you are hoping for, and we decide together whether to continue.
Yes — teenagers from 13 and adults of any age. Two decades in schools means I am comfortable working with families too.
Yes. Preparing for a specific, dated, real event is some of the most useful work we can do.
It varies. Some people come for a short focused stretch around one goal; others prefer ongoing support. You are never locked in.
Call or email me. One sentence about what is going on is plenty — I will take it from there.
I help you build the communication skills to start conversations, show genuine interest, listen with curiosity, and create the kind of connection that actually goes somewhere.
This is communication coaching — not matchmaking, not therapy, and not a set of lines to use on people.
Communication is a skill, and skills can be built. None of this requires a personality transplant.
You do not need to become louder, funnier or more impressive. You need to feel comfortable showing interest, expressing yourself, and letting another person know you.
Good conversation is not a performance with memorised lines. It runs on curiosity, presence, listening, and being clear about what you actually think. Those are all learnable — and they hold up far better than a script.
We work on whatever stage you are stuck at — often it is not the one you expected.
Practical, specific, and built around the dates and conversations actually in front of you. I do not guarantee dates, relationships or romantic outcomes — no one honestly can.
It is communication coaching applied to dating. I am not a matchmaker and this is not relationship therapy.
No. Scripts fall apart the moment a real person answers. We build skills you can use in any conversation.
Yes. We can look at your profile and your messages and work out what is landing and what is not.
Yes, and it is a good use of a session — as long as we prepare rather than rehearse.
Then we start smaller and go slower. Shy people are often excellent listeners already — that is a real advantage.
Very common, and nothing to apologise for. We will get you oriented and build from there.
Yes. Usually it is nerves rather than self-absorption, and there are specific things that help.
Yes. Coaching over video is straightforward and it is how most of this work happens.
Yes. What you tell me stays between us, within my professional and legal obligations.
Email or call. Tell me one thing you would like to be easier and we will start there.
I became interested in communication because of how much it decides. Not just whether someone understands your sentence — whether you get to be known at all.
I am a licensed speech-language pathologist with more than twenty years of experience. For nearly two decades I worked in California public schools, alongside families, teachers, psychologists and therapists of every kind. I sat in a lot of meetings about a lot of people, and the pattern that stayed with me was this: the person in the room who could not easily say what they meant was almost always the person being decided about rather than listened to.
That is why I do this work. Communication is not a cosmetic skill. It is how you make friends, get taken seriously, ask for help, and let someone get close to you. When it feels risky, life quietly narrows — and most people never mention it to anyone.
What I enjoy most is the moment something loosens. Someone makes the phone call. Someone says their own name and does not brace first. Someone comes back from a date and tells me they forgot to be nervous halfway through. That is the whole job, really.
I want you to feel like you can be honest with me — including about the parts you find embarrassing. Nothing you say here will surprise me, and none of it will be treated as a flaw to correct.

Warm, and fairly direct. I will tell you honestly what I notice, because vague encouragement does not help anyone. I am patient about the pace and impatient about wasting your time.
We work collaboratively — you know your life far better than I do, and you always have the final say on what we practise and how far we push. Sessions tend to be practical, occasionally funny, and focused on things that will actually come up this week.
A short paragraph in Susanne's own words: where she likes to walk, what she is reading or growing or cooking, how she prefers to spend a Saturday. Two or three sentences is plenty — enough to feel like a person, not a profile.
Optionally, one small story about a conversation that changed something for her. This is the paragraph most visitors will remember.
All the answers are here on the page — nothing to click open. If your question is not covered, just ask.
Two, at the moment: stuttering support, and dating communication coaching. Both are about helping you communicate more confidently and more like yourself.
Adults and teenagers. People come to me at every level of confidence, and you do not need to have tried anything else first.
You do not have to work that out alone. Tell me what is happening and I will tell you honestly what I think would help — including if it is not me.
Please do. A free 20-minute call with no obligation is the normal way to start.
Yes, over secure video, for clients located in California. Most of my work happens this way.
I am based in the greater Sacramento area and see clients in person there by appointment.
Sessions usually run 45 to 60 minutes. Weekly is common at the start; less often once things are underway. We decide together.
Mostly listening on my part. You tell me what is going on, I ask questions, and we leave with one or two things to start on.
Within one to two business days. If you have not heard from me, please try again — it means something went astray.
Services are private pay, and I will talk you through fees in our first conversation so there are no surprises later.
No. Services are private pay only, and no referral is required. A receipt can be provided if you wish to seek reimbursement yourself.
No. You can get in touch directly, with or without a diagnosis.
Yes, within my professional and legal obligations. What you tell me stays between us.
Call or email. One sentence about what is going on is enough — I will reply and suggest a time to talk.
Ask me. No question is too small, and you are not committing to anything by asking it.
You do not need to know exactly what to ask. Tell me a little about what you are experiencing and I will help you work out the next step — even if that step is not me.
If I cannot pick up, leave a message with a good time to reach you and I will call back.
Call SusanneOften the easier option if speaking on the phone feels like a lot right now. That is completely fine.
